This is a tri-fold tool case, where two of the panels have open vertical pockets and the third panel is a zippered pouch. When closed, the case is about 8" tall and 5" wide.

The unlined version will be slightly smaller than the lined version; the rolled hems use 34" of seam allowance instead of the 12" of a regular seam.

Sewing Instructions

Unlined Version

Hem the Flap

  1. Fold both short edges and one of the long edges of the pocket flap at 38".

  2. Fold the edges again and sew at 14".

Sew the Flap to the Body

  1. Place the pocket flap on the body, right sides together.

  2. Sew at 12".

  3. Trim the seam allowance of the body to 14".

  4. Fold the flap seam allowance over the body allowance.

  5. Fold and press the seam allowance toward the body and topstitch.

Hem the Pockets

  1. Fold the bottom edge of the body at 38".

  2. Fold the edge again and sew at 14".

Sew the Left Side Seam

  1. Fold the bottom edge of the body up to create a 4" pocket.

  2. Fold the left edge of the body at 38".

  3. Fold the edge again and sew at 14".

Sew the Zipper Pouch

  1. Sew the zipper tape to the pouch front panel, right sides together.

  2. Fold the seam toward the front panel and topstitch.

  3. Place the main body on top of the zipper pouch back panel, right sides together.

  4. Place the zipper pouch front panel on top of the main body, right side down. The zipper should be along the right edge of the main body.

  5. Sew the layers together along the right side of the body.

  6. Sew the top and bottom seams of the pouch as close as possible to the main body. Stop the stitches 12" from the edge.

  7. Turn the pouch right side out and press the unsewn seam inward.

  8. Edgestitch the last seam closed.

Attach the Strap

  1. Sew one end of the strap to the fixed end of the buckle.

  2. Sew the strap to the main body with a box stitch. Align the strap so that the fixed end of the buckle is roughly centered over the back of the zippered pouch.
