This is a zippered pouch with an outer pocket panel that’s covered by a velcro flap. The outer pocket is divided into a pleated center section with two flat sections on either side. There are two paracord loops, one on the inside of the zippered pouch and one on the outside at the folded edge of the main panel in the zipper seam. A length of nylon webbing on the back of the pouch forms a handle.

All seam allowances are 12", unless otherwise indicated.
Directions are oriented relative to a front view of the velcro pocket, with the zipper facing up.

Terms

Main Panel

The panel that attaches to the zipper and forms the main pouch. The top edge is attached to the zipper, then it’s folded in half left-to-right. The right and bottom seams are sewn from the outside with binding tape.

Pocket

The pocket on the outside of the case. The top edge is a rolled hem, the left edge is a French seam[1], and the bottom edge is sewn to the main panel with binding tape. There are two pleats in the center section of the pocket.

Flap

The panel at the top of the case that secures the outside pockets. This is two layers, mainly so that there’s a seam for the pull tab. The top edge is sewn into the seam between the zipper and the main panel.

Webbing Handle

A 1-inch nylon webbing strap that runs vertically down the center of the back of the pouch. The top and bottom of the strap are buried in the pouch seams, and it’s reinforced with bartacks or box stitches to attach it to the main panel.

Sewing Instructions

Pocket Flap

  1. Sew the flap pieces together on three edges with the top edge open, right sides together. The flap’s pull tab should be sewn into this seam between layers.

  2. Reinforce the pull tab with a zigzag stitch in the seam allowance.

  3. Flip the flap right sides out and press the seams.

  4. Topstitch along the seams at 14".

  5. Sew the hook side of a 2 32" Velcro strip to the inside of the flap, 38" from the edge

Outside Pocket

  1. Sew a 12" rolled hem on the top edge of the pocket panel.

  2. Sew three 1 12" Velcro loop strips vertically to the pocket panel. One strip should be centered horizontally, and the other two should be spaced so that they span about 2 12". The top of the strips should be 14" from the hemmed top edge.

  3. Place the main panel right side up.

  4. Place the pocket panel on the main panel right side down, with the bottom edges aligned. The right edge of the pocket panel should be aligned with the main panel’s centerline.

  5. Sew a seam 14" from the right edge of the pocket panel.

  6. Trim about 18" from the right edge of the pocket panel.

  7. Fold the pocket panel over and press the seam.

  8. Topstitch 14" from the edge of the seam.

  9. Sew a vertical pocket divider 1" from the stitch in the previous step.

  10. Sew a second vertical pocket divider 1 12" from the right edge.

Make sure that the extra width of the pocket panel is gathered to the center section.
  11. Fold the pleats into the center pocket section and baste along the bottom edge.

Main Pouch

  1. Place the main panel right side up.

  2. Place the paracord loop on the center of the top edge of the main panel.

  3. Place the webbing strap on a vertical line 3" from the left edge of the main panel.

  4. Place the pocket flap right side up on the main panel. The flap should be aligned with the top of the main panel and 12" from the right edge.

  5. Place the zipper tape on the top edge, right side down.

  6. Sew the zipper tape to the top edge of the main panel at 12".

  7. Reinforce the paracord loop with zigzag stitches in the seam allowance.

  8. Reinforce the webbing strap with either bartacks or box stitches. The bottom should definitely be reinforced, but the top is optional.

  9. Fold the zipper seam right sides out and press. Don’t include the flap or the webbing strap.

  10. Topstitch along the zipper (optionally with multiple rows).

Don’t stitch over the pocket flap or the webbing strap.
  11. Fold the main panel in half to join the left and right edges, with the right side of the fabric out.

  12. Place a paracord loop in the right seam near the top edge.

  13. Reinforce the paracord loop with zigzag stitches in the seam allowance.

  14. Sew the right and bottom edges together with grosgrain ribbon or other binding.

1. I’m not sure if that’s the right term, but the unfinished edge is buried like a French seam
